About Digital X-Rays

Digital X-rays are quickly replacing the traditional X-ray at dental facilities across the country and Laser Smile Studio, in Denton, TX is no exception! Board-certified Dental Physician, Dr. Todd McCracken, believes in offering his patients the best technology available, which is why our facility now offers digital X-rays. This diagnostic tool allows our dental team to take amazingly accurate images of the teeth and closely observe them through the use of an associated imaging program. This state-of-the-art technology also emits 80% less radiation than traditional X-ray technology, which in-turn, is safer for the patient. To learn more about digital X-rays, please don't hesitate to call our staff today.

What to Expect

After your teeth are cleaned and polished, we will begin your digital X-rays. Getting digital X-rays at our office is simple and fast. Even our youngest patients know that getting X-rays at our office is nothing to worry about during their appointments. The entire digital X-ray session usually takes about 5 – 10 minutes. Once the needed images are taken, the X-rays are uploaded and can be visible during your appointment in a matter of moments.

Most patients will have a series of digital X-rays taken, including:

  • Panoramic view of the entire mouth, all teeth, the jaws, and sinuses
  • Periapical views to show the entire length of a tooth
  • Bite-wing images of the lower and upper back teeth
  • Occlusal view (images of the bite), if needed

We Take Caution

We still protect our patients from radiation exposure even though the digital X-ray produces much less radiation than the traditional X-rays of the past. Our patients are asked to wear the lead apron as an added precaution. We take additional care with women who are pregnant or breast feeding. However, if you are pregnant, please inform our dental staff immediately. We want to protect all of our patients from radiation exposure, no matter how small.

Insurance Coverage

Many dental insurance plans cover your digital X-rays as a part of preventative dentistry. Keep in mind that digital X-rays at our office vary in price. However, our Financial Coordinator can contact your insurance to determine any out-of-pocket costs. We also offer several payment planning methods to help break up the costs over a series of monthly payments if by chance the cost is not covered by your dental insurance plan.
